Hive Helsinki is seeking a highly motivated and hands-on COO to join the team

Hive Helsinki is a pioneering, peer-to-peer coding school that enables people from all walks of life to learn future-proof skills through collaborative learning. Hive has no teachers or lectures, and applicants do not need any prior coding experience, degrees, or diplomas.

As COO, you will:

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of Hive Helsinki as part of the leadership team; this includes operational planning, such as student intake processes, as well as operational leadership such as team management, safety, compliance and quality
  • Establish and execute operational processes that align with Hive Helsinki's mission and goals, with a focus on delivering tangible results
  • Support the team by providing help and facilitate collaboration to ensure the smooth and efficient running of internal processes; this includes having monthly 1:1’s to assist team members and track their workload and wellbeing, as well as aligning the team and prioritising the team's focus and tasks
  • Develop and support student success initiatives such as efficient student employment
  • Ensure that Hive complies with relevant laws and regulations, such as educational standards, workforce requirements, and data privacy laws

Your main responsibilities revolve around the following topics:

Project Management

  • Partner with the team to manage and deliver on key projects
  • Develop project plans, allocate resources, and manage project timelines to ensure successful delivery
  • Keep the team accountable and actively track the project progress

Financial Management

  • Oversee and ensure monthly expenses are in order, reported correctly, and within the approved budget, aiming to maintain cost control and savings
  • Report salary information (employee holidays, benefits, days-off) to accounting and approve monthly payroll based on actuality
  • Support in fundraising and revenue-generating strategies

External Relations

  • Build strong and positive relationships with partner organizations, stakeholders, and the wider Finnish ecosystem
  • Represent Hive Helsinki in external meetings and discussions as needed

What we're looking for:

  • Passion for Hive Helsinki’s mission and for helping others, as well as interest in education and technology
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, driven attitude and readiness to ask for help when needed
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and project management
  • Capabilities to lead inclusively and with empathy while holding people accountable
  • Experience working as COO, Operations Lead, Project Lead or Product Lead is ideal
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in English
