The SELECTION SPRINT
This is the final step of the application process, where you experience what it’s like to study at Hive. The three-week Selection Sprint, including weekends, is all about learning to code with other motivated candidates working toward the same goal: earning a full-time spot at Hive.

No experience required!
If you can use a mouse and keyboard, you’re ready to start. Everyone, no matter their background, begins with hands-on tasks from day one, tackles the same challenges, and learns by working together.
At Hive, success happens through collaboration.

It’s not a competition
Collaboration is essential for success, both at Hive and in the real world. Our selection process is not about competing against others. Instead, you will work side by side with other applicants, solve challenges together, helping each other learn and grow.
If everyone meets the selection criteria, everyone gets in. On average, about one-third of applicants are accepted.

Just try it
During the selection process, you will try, fail, and try again. That’s a natural part of learning. It helps you build the persistence and problem-solving skills that are key to becoming a great coder.
You will also experience Hive’s peer-to-peer and project-based way of learning. If you discover it’s not the right fit for you, you are free to step away at any point in the process.
How it works
Applying to Hive Helsinki is quite different compared to other schools. In summary, it goes like this:
- Try our online game.
- Attend a check-in event to learn more about Hive and the application process.
- Participate in the Selection Sprint, learn coding fundamentals, and get selected to Hive!
The best part? Applying to Hive is not a competition. Instead, you work together with other applicants to learn the basics of programming.
Selection Sprints are organized at the Hive Helsinki campus in Helsinki.
You need to be an EU citizen or have a valid residence permit to study at Hive. We do not provide student visas.
