How Hive’s internship works

To complete Hivers’ education as coders, our curriculum includes a mandatory internship, which gives the highly motivated students a first real-life experience of what working as a coder truly means.

Students are looking for 4 to 6 month long internships where they can showcase their talent, understanding of code, creativity, ambition and the hunger to learn more.

Companies who employ Hivers only need to appoint a mentor for the student, and provide clear and challenging responsibilities for the 4-6 month long period of paid internship execution.

About Hive Helsinki

Hive Helsinki is a coding school that offers a unique and intensive learning experience based on the curriculum of the renowned École 42 in Paris. The school operates on a peer-to-peer learning model, emphasizing project-based learning and collaboration. There are no formal teachers; instead, students learn from each other, which encourages collaboration, problem-solving, and communication. This approach fosters self-discipline, independence and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Hive Helsinki does not require any previous coding experience. The program begins with a 4-week intensive application bootcamp known as the “Piscine” (French for “swimming pool”), which immerses applicants in the basics of programming, requiring them to code extensively and collaboratively. Based on the results from the Piscine applicants that get into the school are selected. This ensures that only the most suitable and motivated people study at Hive Helsinki.

The Curriculum

The curriculum consists of a series of projects that mimic real-world scenarios and challenges, covering various aspects of programming and software development. These projects increase in complexity as students progress, ensuring continuous growth and learning.

After the Piscine, students dive into the core curriculum, covering topics such as algorithms and data structures, Unix and system programming, C programming, web development, object-oriented programming, and functional programming. Many advanced projects require teamwork, simulating professional software development environments.
