how to apply to hive
The world of code needs people like you. Hive Helsinki is a free coding school open to people from all backgrounds. If you’re curious, motivated, and ready to fully commit to the program, you’re already on the right track.
You must be at least 18 years old or have completed your basic comprehensive education. No previous coding experience or degrees are required. You do need to be an EU citizen or have a valid residence permit to study at Hive.
We’re not like most schools. That includes how you apply. But don’t worry, the process is straightforward. Just follow the three steps below and get started.

Step 1: Try our online game
Create an account in the application portal and try our online game. No coding is required – only logic. Reserve at least 1 hour to play. Also, find a place where you can concentrate, as pausing or restarting is not possible. Don’t give up, you’ve got this!
Step 2: Attend a check-in event
Once you have completed the game, you need to attend a check-in event to discover more about the studies at Hive and the Selection Sprint. You don’t have to come to Helsinki for this part: we have both online (remote) and on-site events. You need to participate only in one check-in.
Step 3: Participate in the Selection Sprint
The Piscine is an immersive four-week training on campus that will give you a taste of the way we work. Spots are limited and served on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone dives into the deep end of coding. No prior coding skills required – you just need to be open and ready for hard work. The Piscine determines who gets accepted to Hive.
About the selection
For you, the only requirements before registering for a Piscine are completing the online game and attending a check-in event. Check-in events and the Piscine have limited spots and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis through the application portal.
